i'm unbelievably ticked right now!
you know that pumpkin carving contest i've been raving about?
well i have been- rest assured
supremely confident that i would win first place,
i did not even consider what would happen if i didn't-
and now i'm picking up the shattered pieces of my dreams
realizing that not only did i not win first place, i did not place AT ALL!
@#!!$#*(#*$
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
who the heck was in charge of judging this farce!!!!!!!!!!!
what a bunch of ignorant "people"!
they awarded third prize to peter, who did his own self portrait- very nicely
honorable mention to the schmuck to also did a pumpkin of peter
which looked alot more like the lion from the Wiz than peter
second prize to some P.O.C. that looked like a broken carosel- it was all wilted and disgusting
and the kicker of all was first prize! They gave it to JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
a cheap, pumpkin stencil that anyone, including me, could find on the internet
i did find it and considered doing it even, but then i realized that it would not take any artistic talent or thought! i mean for craps sake! of course they're gonna give it to Jesus-
which is the biggest crock i've ever heard of!
no one flippin know what jesus looks like
and just cause some artist tells us what he looks like he's instantly recognizable?
ooh we must give it to jesus- our lord on the pumpkin-
you fools, you idolatrous, insolent fools!

Into the Woods

went to the school musical last nite
wonderful!
performances by harvey martin, one of my heroes, a pastor and professor of mine
jordan steffen, my neighbor from hudson, all growed up
i was especially moved by a scene with the two of them together as father and son

i had worked on the set a bit and it was amazing to see how it all had come together!
then next weekend it all gets torn down, ah well.

colts win! vikes win!

band names:
God's own, yesteryear, good omen, nihilists, fantastic drip

stay

a movie i saw yesterday is still with me today
i can't wrap my mind around it at this point
i saw it alone, which is something i reccomend, not merely seeing this movie alone
but seeing more movies alone in general-

there is a moment near the end of the movie that i could live in for several days

the island of lost children misses you. come back to us.

(i miss hawaii)

Impounded

my car was impounded the other day-
what should've resulted in a simple parking fine (which i could've simply discarded and forgot about) became a misdemeanor, just like that.
damn the cops- citing expired tabs, which is true, but i have the new temproary license plate in my back window!! it's right there- you stupid prickas- take a look in a persons back window before you tow them all over the city of st. paul, make them pay 115 to get their car back, make them go all over st. paul trying to undo the damage! dammit.

my new license plates will be cool though- custom plates- i'll let you know what i get-

more band name ideas:
still in love, yogi & i, juniper skies, the one and only, custom plates, shiver me timbers, jay kay
(emily, i dont think there are enough bands named after cities, so that could be an option to consider- also i really like the idea of guest artists on our album, like kanye west does- i know we know tons of talented people to play with us who won't need to join the band)

band name ideas:

old ones:
heartsleeve, heartsong, twin sisters, twin lesbians, the skinny dip (can't remember any others from that night)

new ones:
ess&em (variations; esandem, ess and em, s&em), sempiternal, the virg, dry your eyes, sirens, reach for the stars, the claimjumpers, lars and the life buoys, keep it down, hofosho, (more to follow)
new job

i got a new job
at the mall
working for Eddie Bauer, the man,

peter and i applied,
he didn't get it- which is strange,
he's the one who told me about the job even,
we also applied at Hollister, and the Buckle,
havn't heard from them though-

you'd think peter would've been the more likely candidate for
EB, but perhaps they're trying to change their image even more,
by hiring some pretty boy with pretty hair (stop saying that)

i also worked for aveda last weekend,
like i mentioned,
it was a runway model job,
for the national congress of Aveda,
i yoinked a bunch of products and they're paying me like
three hundy, which is nice for getting your hair done up like a samurai-

i'm a model in my mind (and for aveda, i guess)

one for the kids
(who's laughing now)

see what you made me do Emily?
ya see?
this is how it starts
and before you know it you're published and and signing children's books and and dating chicks that you were never good enough for before and and on and on we go-

so i realize that this band is a big commitment, i don't know if i'm ready for it, i don't know if you are. but i don't want to let fear slow either of us down. we need to start making some strong decisions-they may or may not be wise ones or necessary ones at that, but for gods' sake lets have some balls about it.
so are we or are we not gonna do this thing?

i hope the answer is yes, because i think fast, and at this rate i've already put a lot of thought into it-

i'm going to assume a yes,
and even if it is a no
i'll continue if only for my own sake

first things first-

we need to agree on a name- you and i- and commit to it, pretty fiercely i think, to be taken seriously.

second what kind of band are we? i don't mean what kind of music will we play, i'm sick of bands that are solely defined by their music- screw that, you don't know me, and you don't know what i been through, so if i wanna play country music one day and reggae the next and emopopraphopcore every day in between i will alright? and screw you too if you don't like it-
(sorry about that, i get a little passionate sometimes)
as a band i think we should be defined by how we appear on stage, what we wear and what we do- this should be fairly consistent, i could be wrong, but i really think that we need to give the kids something to identify with- so signature looks and moves are the way to go-

third we need band photos/album cover ideas- this will be fun, a chance for you and i to bond a bit and stretch our creative whatevers- good band photos too, i like pictures that tell a story and reveal a little more about the band than "we're attractive 20-somethings posing our lives away" furthermore, i'm so tired of crappy album covers, not that i'm against female ass cleavage, far from it, but could we please get a little more creative! don't just show it to me, show it to me~ enough about this-

finally we'll loosely define our roles within the band- i don't want to get us stuck in a place that becomes what we're all about and all we know how to do- if you can sing why should you have to do it from behind the drum set all the time, and if you can play guitar why should you get to sing at the same time- why not? well, you can see where this could go- total chaos without some structure, so we should at least know our boundaries, to provide a level of comfort, but not be afraid to push those boundaries to the absolute limit-

after that it's the easy stuff, write songs, practice (optional), play shows etc.

a lot to chew on in one bite i know i know-
but drink it in and let me know
-how'd you like the show by the way? it was good to see you then-
perhaps we can discuss this tonight at peter's-
ok coo'
*sam
(p.s. you're a star and you should be recognized as one)
