one for the kids
(who's laughing now)
see what you made me do Emily?
ya see?
this is how it starts
and before you know it you're published and and signing children's books and and dating chicks that you were never good enough for before and and on and on we go-
so i realize that this band is a big commitment, i don't know if i'm ready for it, i don't know if you are. but i don't want to let fear slow either of us down. we need to start making some strong decisions-they may or may not be wise ones or necessary ones at that, but for gods' sake lets have some balls about it.
so are we or are we not gonna do this thing?
i hope the answer is yes, because i think fast, and at this rate i've already put a lot of thought into it-
i'm going to assume a yes,
and even if it is a no
i'll continue if only for my own sake
first things first-
we need to agree on a name- you and i- and commit to it, pretty fiercely i think, to be taken seriously.
second what kind of band are we? i don't mean what kind of music will we play, i'm sick of bands that are solely defined by their music- screw that, you don't know me, and you don't know what i been through, so if i wanna play country music one day and reggae the next and emopopraphopcore every day in between i will alright? and screw you too if you don't like it-
(sorry about that, i get a little passionate sometimes)
as a band i think we should be defined by how we appear on stage, what we wear and what we do- this should be fairly consistent, i could be wrong, but i really think that we need to give the kids something to identify with- so signature looks and moves are the way to go-
third we need band photos/album cover ideas- this will be fun, a chance for you and i to bond a bit and stretch our creative whatevers- good band photos too, i like pictures that tell a story and reveal a little more about the band than "we're attractive 20-somethings posing our lives away" furthermore, i'm so tired of crappy album covers, not that i'm against female ass cleavage, far from it, but could we please get a little more creative! don't just show it to me, show it to me~ enough about this-
finally we'll loosely define our roles within the band- i don't want to get us stuck in a place that becomes what we're all about and all we know how to do- if you can sing why should you have to do it from behind the drum set all the time, and if you can play guitar why should you get to sing at the same time- why not? well, you can see where this could go- total chaos without some structure, so we should at least know our boundaries, to provide a level of comfort, but not be afraid to push those boundaries to the absolute limit-
after that it's the easy stuff, write songs, practice (optional), play shows etc.
a lot to chew on in one bite i know i know-
but drink it in and let me know
-how'd you like the show by the way? it was good to see you then-
perhaps we can discuss this tonight at peter's-
ok coo'

(p.s. you're a star and you should be recognized as one)
